Our Commitment

Peace of Heart for All Nations is committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for all individuals we serve, particularly children and vulnerable adults. We have zero tolerance for abuse, exploitation, or harm of any kind.

Definitions

Children

For the purposes of this policy, children are defined as individuals under the age of 18.

Vulnerable Adults

Adults who may be at increased risk of abuse due to age, illness, disability, or other circumstances that limit their ability to protect themselves.

Safeguarding Principles

  • The welfare of children and vulnerable adults is paramount
  • All individuals have the right to protection from abuse and neglect
  • Everyone has a responsibility to report concerns
  • We will work with local authorities and law enforcement when appropriate
  • Prevention is better than cure
  • We respect the dignity and rights of all individuals

Recruitment and Screening

All staff, volunteers, and partners who work directly with children or vulnerable adults must:

  • Complete a comprehensive application process
  • Provide references that will be verified
  • Undergo background checks appropriate to their role and jurisdiction
  • Complete safeguarding training
  • Agree to our Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

All representatives of Peace of Heart for All Nations must:

  • Treat all individuals with respect and dignity
  • Never engage in physical, emotional, or sexual abuse
  • Avoid situations that could be misinterpreted or create vulnerability
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries in all interactions
  • Never use language or behavior that is harassing, abusive, or demeaning
  • Report any concerns immediately through proper channels

Reporting Concerns

If you have concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child or vulnerable adult:

  • Report your concerns immediately to our Safeguarding Officer
  • Do not investigate yourself or confront the alleged perpetrator
  • Document what you observed, heard, or were told
  • Maintain confidentiality (information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis)

Emergency situations: In cases of immediate danger, contact local emergency services first, then notify our organization.

Investigation and Response

When a concern is reported, we will:

  • Take all reports seriously and respond promptly
  • Ensure the immediate safety of the individual
  • Report to local authorities and law enforcement as required by law
  • Conduct an internal review in cooperation with authorities
  • Take appropriate action, which may include suspension or termination
  • Provide support to affected individuals
  • Review and strengthen policies as needed

Training and Education

We provide ongoing safeguarding training to all staff, volunteers, and partners to ensure they understand their responsibilities, recognize signs of abuse, and know how to respond appropriately.

Photography and Media

We obtain appropriate consent before photographing or filming children or vulnerable adults. We ensure that images and information are used respectfully and do not put individuals at risk.
